BIRD at a glance

BIRD was established in 2015 in response to the serious drought in Maharashtra during the year 2012, 2013 and 2014 especially in parts of Western Maharashtra and Marathwada region. This drought had serious effects on the resource availability of the under privileged section of the society. Ever Since then BIRD has intervened in almost all parts of Maharashtra as a non-governmental organization that would provide technical support for development and rehabilitation work.

In 2015 BIRD , it was registered under the Maharashtra Societies Registration 223/2015 Pune Originally set up as an NGO and adopted the name BIRD “Basic Initiatives For Resource Development” it was eventually established as a result of seven professionals working for the development sector in various verticals, they happened to come together with the realization that there is a need to work in a holistic way for strengthening the resource availability of the under privilege sections of the society. Since then, BIRD has strived with various development works in Maharashtra for coordination, support and technical guidance for various projects. Initially the new organization concentrated on developing watersheds through watershed development projects in drought prone Villages to argument groundwater and improve the livelihood of the rural community. Subsequently, it shifted its focus from merely providing sources of ground water to educating and capacitating people for its proper utilization, conjunctive use of water, and other water conservation practices, including the adoption of the watershed development approach as an integrated approach to rural development. Over the last decades, BIRD has been transforming and growing with time, remaining sensitive to the changing developmental scenario by constantly endeavoring to face the new and emerging challenges of rural India.
